The History and Future of Investing in Platinum Coins

In these tough economic times, you may have several friends and family members choosing to change their assets over to precious metals, or otherwise invest in the precious metal market.  It can be so very difficult these days to determine the right way to invest.  Precious metals have proven to be a stable market since the dawn of civilization as we know it.  Investing in precious metals is definitely the safest way to ensure that your investments will stand the test of time, and will stick around, and better yet grow, for the benefit of you and your family.  One way to invest in precious metals is to convert your assets into precious metal bullion coins.  There are bullion coins for gold and silver, but one particularly interesting bullion coin available is the American Eagle Platinum Coin.  If you are looking to buy platinum coins, this is one option to look into.

Platinum coins first came into production during the Spanish colonization of the new Americas.  Platinum was very inexpensive then, and silver was more expensive than platinum.  It was used to counterfeit silver coins, at the time.  It was also used to counterfeit gold coins, once it was discovered that gold alloys with platinum quite nicely.  In our modern times, platinum is now highly valued.  The American Eagle Platinum Coin is the only platinum coin now in production, which is what makes it so interesting.  However, there are also some other commonly found platinum coins that abound.  The major platinum bullion coins available are known as the American Platinum Eagle, the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf, the Australian Platinum Koala, the Isle of Man Noble, the Platinum Cat, the Chinese Platinum Panda and a variety of coin series by the former Soviet Union and subsequently by the Russian Federation.

These coins, while mostly not currently in production, are still available today and can be purchased as a wise investment opportunity.  Platinum coins will not melt or burn like silver and gold coins can in the event of a fire, manmade, or natural disaster.  This also means platinum coins are not very malleable, but this can work to the advantage of the intelligent investor.  Do not lose your assets in a fire, be it a literal, physical fire, or a metaphorical one representing our economic system’s current state of collapse.  I hope you’ve learned a bit about the history and future of investing in platinum coins and how it can benefit you.
